Give Youth a Seat at the Table

“Young people like myself have the power to change the systems that impact our financial lives and our parents’. But I learned early on that young people don’t have a seat at the table when decisions are made about matters that will economically impact our lives.”
– Amadeos Oyagata
One of the most inspiring things we get to do every day at MyPath is work and lead alongside brilliant and driven youth advocates like Amadeos Oyagata. When young leaders like Amadeos have a seat at the table, change happens. Five years ago, youth advocates convinced the Department of Children, Youth and their Families (DCYF) to do more to ensure youth have access to youth-friendly accounts, financial education and direct deposit when they are earning city-funded paychecks. Today, thanks to DCYF, the Office of Financial Empowerment, SF Federal Credit Union and Self-Help Federal Credit Union, youth workers in San Francisco have saved over $3.5 million through MyPath Savings.
This year, MyPath youth advocates are continuing the fight for non-custodial youth accounts in California and leading a campaign to ensure the City and County of San Francisco is setting a leading example for the rest of the country by requiring youth financial capability in all city-funded youth programs.
We know positive change happens when the right people are at the table. Join us today in our work to make room at the table for youth advocates at the local, state and national levels. Your support will give youth leaders the confidence and resources needed to shift policies and advocate for a path to economic mobility.
Thanks for your support and we hope you can make a gift today!
